Baseball Recap: St. Paul Flyers vs. Lucas Cubs
St. Paul had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 9-8 to make it four. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lucas Cubs. The Flyers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cubs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.
St. Paul saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Snyder, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Lucas, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games.
On Lucas' side, Jack DiBartolomeo and Brady Anschutz made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, DiBartolomeo struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Anschutz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. DiBartolomeo is becoming a predictor of Lucas' success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). At the plate, DiBartolomeo got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Anschutz went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Bobby Grover was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Rayden Caudill, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
