Baseball Recap: Sabino Takes a Loss

Sabino extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They lost 14-3 to the Pusch Ridge Christian Academy Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sabercats of the 4-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

As for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, they now have a winning record of 12-11. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the game before.

For Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's part, John Sunukjian made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Sunukjian has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Hunter Edmunds and Lincoln Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Edmunds went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Miller got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Those five stolen bases gave Edmunds a new career-high. Jacob Newborn also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sabino will take on Catalina at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, they will face off against Safford at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
