Baseball Game Preview: Serrano Diamondbacks vs. Sultana Sultans

Serrano hasn't had much luck against Sultana recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Serrano Diamondbacks will head out on the road to challenge the Sultana Sultans at 6:00 p.m. Serrano has given up an average of 12.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Serrano is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They lost 21-2 to Apple Valley.

Serrano saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Scott Ebeling, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Sultana hadn't done well against Oak Hills recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Sultana's pitcher stepped up to hand Oak Hills a 1-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Sultans sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Not much got past LJ Borrego, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Oak Hills off the board. Borrego has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Sultana pushed their record up to 8-2-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Serrano, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Serrano might still be hurting after the 19-2 defeat they got from Sultana in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Serrano avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
