Basketball Recap: Rapides Comes Up Short

Rapides was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ouachita Christian Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered since November 28, 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Rapides lost, don't look at Zayveian Johnson. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 21 en route to 28 points and five assists. That was a full 58.3% of Rapides' points, marking the fourth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Wilson, who had nine points and five rebounds.

Johnson wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Rapides was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Rapides' defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Ouachita Christian, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.

Rapides will challenge St. Joseph's - Plaucheville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ouachita Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 47-40 victory against Holy Savior Menard on the 31st.
