League recap: Nettles breaks off league-leading run for Brookhaven Academy

MAIS AA District 5 recap Sept. 26, 2012

Landon Nettles of Brookhaven Academy ran for the longest rushing play in MAIS AA District 5 this season against Centreville Academy last week. Nettles scampered for 78 yards on the play and finished with 184 on the day as his team lost to the Tigers.

Trinity Episcopal Day was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Saints vanquished Adams County Christian 47-27 earlier in the week.

Brookhaven Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Gage Posey threw for 215 and one touchdown and Seth Rushing had 90 yards receiving. Matthew Evans helped Brookhaven Academy's passing attack out by catching five balls for 81 yards.

Brookhaven Academy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Cougars feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Posey has thrown for 886 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Evans has 20 catches for 338 yards. Nettles leads the league in rushing with 575 yards.

Columbia Academy moved up to 147 from 202 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in MAIS AA District 5. The Cougars were able to make the jump by beating Sylva Bay Academy 35-7.
