Baseball Recap: Pima Gets the Win

Pima's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Morenci Wildcats. The Roughriders haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Ramon Hernandez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Cedrick Grimes was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Pima: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Rhiley Good, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Pima hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Morenci struck out seven times.

Pima's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Morenci, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pima will take on Gilbert Classical Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Roughriders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Morenci, they will face off against Santa Rita at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.4 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
