Basketball Recap: Sofia Clayton Key Part of a Team Effort in Buccaneers Win

Laney won the last time they faced Ashley and things went their way on Friday too. The Laney Buccaneers put the hurt on the Ashley Screaming Eagle with a sharp 54-32 victory.

Laney's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sofia Clayton, who went 8 of 18 en route to 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniece Lewis, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine assists.

Laney was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ashley only racked up five assists.

When it comes to explaining why Ashley lost, don't look at Alaina Boos. Despite the final result, she posted seven points and 14 boards. Boos has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Laney's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Ashley, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-9.

Laney has already played their next contest, a 70-27 win against West Brunswick on the 28th. As for Ashley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 63-61 loss against South Brunswick on the 28th.
