Softball Game Preview: Hampton Bays Baymen vs. Islip Buccaneers

The Hampton Bays Baymen will take on the Islip Buccaneers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

Hampton Bays lost 10-2 to Sayville on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Baymen in their meetings with the Golden Flashes: they've now lost seven in a row.

Hampton Bays saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shea Egan, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Another was Lillyann Maffia, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Islip). They put the hurt on Shoreham-Wading River with a sharp 14-1 win on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.

Lauren Hofmann spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Grace Ryan was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Peighton Mckenna was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Islip lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Islip now has a winning record of 6-5-1. As for Hampton Bays, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
