Baseball Game Preview: Germantown Academy Patriots vs. Archbishop Wood Vikings

Germantown Academy hasn't had much luck against Archbishop Wood recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Patriots will head out to square off against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Germantown Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Archbishop Wood's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Germantown Academy came into this matchup off a tough seven-run loss on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Archbishop Ryan by a score of 5-3 on Saturday. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Wood entered their tilt with Holy Ghost Prep on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Firebirds.

Andrew Unrath and Jack Coughlin dominated on the mound. Unrath tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits, while Coughlin tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Unrath has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Archbishop Wood saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zach Neeld, who went 3-for-4 with one run. That's the most hits Neeld has posted since back in April of 2024.

Archbishop Wood pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Germantown Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
