Basketball Recap: Paw Paw Comes Up Short

Paw Paw lost against Union back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Paw Paw Pirates took an 83-75 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Union Tigers. The Pirates were down 66-41 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Paw Paw lost, don't look at Donavan Tanouye. Despite the final result, he went 14 of 30 on his way to 38 points along with eight boards and eight steals. Tanouye's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Carder, who posted 23 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Paw Paw smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Union's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corbin Streets, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 20 boards. Braylon Ward was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine boards.

Paw Paw's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Union, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Paw Paw and Blacklick Valley will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Paw Paw is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64 points per game this season. As for Union, they will take on Petersburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
