Baseball Recap: Muncie Central Victorious

Muncie Central took a 17-run defeat the last time they faced off against Cowan, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bearcats skirted past the Blackhawks 7-5. For the Bearcats, this counts as revenge for the 20-3 victory the Blackhawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2022.

Aaron Coggeshall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Logan Campbell, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Muncie Central is 3-1 when Campbell posts two or more runs, but 1-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Rodney Dabney, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

Muncie Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Muncie Central's win bumped their record up to 4-14. As for Cowan, their record now sits at 8-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Muncie Central will face off against Mt. Vernon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Marauders will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Bearcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cowan, they will square off against Eastbrook at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
