Softball Recap: Desert Vista's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Desert Vista entered their tilt with Corona del Sol on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Aztecs 18-2. That's more bragging rights for the Thunder, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Madyson Purdy made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mckenzie Leitgen was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaymie Larney, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Desert Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 17-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Desert Vista's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Corona del Sol, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-11.

Looking ahead, Corona del Sol will head out to take on Tucson High Magnet School at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Badgers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Aztecs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Desert Vista will be paying especially close attention to Corona del Sol's match: after Corona del Sol faces off against Tucson High Magnet School, they'll take on Desert Vista again at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
