Baseball Recap: Morro Bay Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

While Morro Bay didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Santa Maria Saints with a sharp 11-1 victory on Thursday. Considering the Pirates have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Evan Davis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three doubles, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Byron Erkenbra also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Davis wasn't the only one making solid contact: Morro Bay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Maria only managed five hits.

Morro Bay's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Maria, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-2.

Coming up, Morro Bay will challenge Exeter at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Santa Maria, they will face off against Santa Ynez at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
