Softball Recap: Marcellus Comes Up Short

Marcellus dropped down to 5-4 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 14-1 to the Chittenango Bears. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Marcellus saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Dilmore, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Chittenango, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games.

On Chittenango's side, Karalynne Carmon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Carmon has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danica Oppenheimer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alivia Cavotta, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marcellus will welcome Cazenovia at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lakers have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Chittenango, they will be playing at home against Liverpool at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
