South Dade and Southridge are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Buccaneers will be playing at home against the Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. South Dade fell victim to Hialeah Educational Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Biggie. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Buccaneers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

South Dade got a good showing from Emmanuel Mercedes, who struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mercedes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, South Dade saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kevin Cappacetti, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Southridge fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Ferguson on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 14-10 to the Falcons. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

South Dade moved to 10-11 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Southridge, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
