Baseball Game Preview: Westfield Wolverines vs. Maple Grove Red Dragons

Westfield is 0-10 against Maple Grove since May of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Wolverines will be playing at home against the Red Dragons at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Westfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Chautauqua Lake on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wolverines have suffered since April 26th.

Danny Bratton was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He has become a key player for Westfield: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 3-6 otherwise. Bratton was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

Bratton wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joel Stein, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Maple Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 16-3 to Frewsburg.

Maple Grove's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Westfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
