Football Recap: Huntsville Falls to Brenham in First Game of Season

Huntsville had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They came up short against the Brenham Cubs, falling 34-13. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the Cubs are ranked 96th).

Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Traeshawn Brown, who rushed for 95 yards and one TD, and also picked up 44 receiving yards. Zarien Adolphe was another key player, rushing for 75 yards.

While Huntsville came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Brenham: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 46.2%. The team can thank Samuel Cleveland for the heroic effort on defense: he. Huntsville wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 32.1%.

A big part of Brenham's win came down to the chemistry between Hudson Hartstack and his top target Chris Guidry. Hartstack threw for 149 yards and three touchdowns while Guidry picked up 99 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Huntsville will venture away from home to take on Bryan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Brenham, they will head out to challenge Sterling at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
