Basketball Recap: Will Weirath's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Grand Junction over Uintah

Grand Junction fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Uintah on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 60-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Uintah Utes. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 63-62 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2015.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Will Weirath, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 12 points. Another player making a difference was Grant Lewis, who posted 11 points.

Uintah's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxon Jenson, who went 8 for 16 en route to 18 points and four steals. That's the most points Jenson has posted since back in November of 2024. Jace Sutton also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Grand Junction's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Uintah, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7.

Grand Junction will square off against Montrose at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Uintah has already played their next contest (against Layton Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
