Basketball Recap: Ashe County Takes a Loss

Ashe County lost against Alexander Central back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Ashe County Huskies were outmatched by the Alexander Central Cougars and fell 69-32. The Huskies were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-15.

Despite the loss, Ashe County had strong showings from Bryce Peters, who posted 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, and Ian Graybeal, who put up four points and five boards. Peters is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played.

Jayon Connor was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 38 points and ten boards for Alexander Central. That makes it five consecutive games in which Connor has scored at least a third of Alexander Central's points. Another player making a difference was Jaheim Redmond, who earned four points along with nine assists and five rebounds.

Ashe County dropped their record down to 5-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Alexander Central, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-7.

Ashe County has already played their next match, a 60-40 victory against Hibriten on the 15th. As for Alexander Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 68-65 win against Watauga on the 14th.
