Basketball Recap: Marlee Reupena Key Part of a Team Effort in Jaguars Win

West Jordan hadn't done well against Hunter recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The West Jordan Jaguars took down the Hunter Wolverines 58-41. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Jaguars also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

West Jordan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Marlee Reupena, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine steals. Reupena is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Giselle Muffett, who posted 22 points and six boards.

Hunter's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mamakoula Tuitupou-Kutu, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Grace Gallagher, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 boards. That was a full 41.5% of Hunter's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiana Pauni, who earned no points in addition to nine rebounds and six assists.

West Jordan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points per game. As for Hunter, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-11.

West Jordan will head out on the road to take on Taylorsville at 7:00 p.m. on January 28th. West Jordan knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Taylorsville likes a good challenge. Hunter has already played their next match (against Kearns), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
