Baseball Recap: Newburyport Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

Newburyport took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Triton Regional, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Clippers never let the Vikings get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Clippers: when they faced off against the Vikings back in April, they had to take a 6-0 defeat.

Newburyport's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Parker Johnson, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base. Tommy Gagnon also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Newburyport pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Triton Regional, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newburyport will square off against Essex North Shore Agric & Tech School at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Triton Regional, they will challenge Pentucket Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
