1. Salmen (Slidell)
2012-13 record: 29-5, Class 4A state champions
Head coach: Kevin Anderson

The Spartans drilled opponents by an average margin of 37 points per game en route to the 4A title a year ago. Hopes for back-to-back championships are fueled by the return of 6-foot-5 Kalani Brown, a national recruit and daughter of former NBA veteran P.J. Brown. She was the LSWA 4A Player of the Year as a sophomore.

2. Easton (New Orleans)
2012-13 record: 34-3
Head coach: Darius Mimms

Class 4A all-stater Lawriell Wilson leads a talented cast of Eagles. Aliesha Celestine (6-3, Sr., F), Kechelle Figueroa (So., G) and Sabrina Banks (Jr.) could give Mimms enough to get past Brown and Salmen in the 4A ranks.

3. West Monroe
2012-13 record: 28-7
Head coach: John Green

The Rebels reached the 5A quarterfinals a year ago with nine sophomores and freshmen on the roster. Class 5A all-state pick Abby Lee, a 5-11 junior, is the best of that bunch after posting 15.1 points per game as a sophomore.

4. Curtis (River Ridge)
2012-13 record: 23-8
Head coach: Barbara Farris

The Patriots return virtually intact after winning 14 of their last 15 games a year ago. Class 2A all-state pick Kolby Morgan leads the way after putting up 24 points per game as a junior. Senior guard Tia Charles is back to play sidekick after earning all-state honorable mention accolades in 2012-13.

5. New Iberia
2012-13 record: 23-7
Head coach: Todd Russ

The Yellowjackets should be ready to join the state's elite with the return of all-state performers Moesha Kinard (19.8 points per game as a junior) and Kierra Anthony.
