Preview: Riverwood Raiders vs. Marist War Eagles
The Riverwood Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Marist War Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Riverwood has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Marist will arrive with eight straight wins.
Last Thursday, Riverwood ended up a good deal behind Dunwoody and lost 32-18. While losing is never fun, Riverwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 269th, while Dunwoody is ranked 119th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jackson Davis, who threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns. Devyn Gipson was in the mix as well, providing Riverwood with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Marist got themselves on the board against St. Pius X Catholic on Friday, but St. Pius X Catholic never followed suit. They took down the Golden Lions 17-0.
Riverwood has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Marist, their victory was their 11th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
Riverwood took a serious blow against Marist in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 34-7. Can Riverwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
