Softball Game Preview: Northeastern Knights vs. Delta Eagles

The Northeastern Knights will venture away from home to face off against the Delta Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Northeastern took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Knightstown. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Hailey Elsrod looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alexis Russell, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Karri Gammon, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Northeastern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Delta never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against New Castle on Monday. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 10-6.

Delta's victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Northeastern, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Northeastern took their win against Delta in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
