Baseball Recap: Northern Durham Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Northern Durham had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Hillside Hornets by a score of 5-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-0 last Thursday.

Dylan Guerrette and J.P. Rodio were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Guerrette struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Rodio tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Guerrette a new career-high. At bat, Guerrette scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Rodio went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Rodio has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Liam Hawkes, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. He also launched a home run, marking his first of the season. Mason Wilkins was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Northern Durham's record now sits at 8-6. As for Hillside, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Coincidentally, Northern Durham and Hillside will both be playing Chapel Hill the next time they take the field. The Knights will host the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Hornets will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
