Baseball Recap: Elbert Comes Up Short

Elbert dropped their record down to 5-7 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 15-5 to the Cheyenne Wells Tigers. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their loss to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in April of 2022.

Caleb Cornell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Elbert: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

As for Cheyenne Wells, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Cheyenne Wells, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

On Cheyenne Wells' side, Marcus Bogenhagen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bogenhagen has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brennan Framel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Kooper Brossman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
