The Decatur Eagles will head out to challenge the Eagle Mountain Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Eagle Mountain will be up against a hot Decatur squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Eagles put the hurt on Castleberry with a sharp 11-5 victory on Monday.
Alexa Beeson and Alivia Creasser were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Beeson struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Creasser pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Beeson scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Creasser scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, Creasser posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Hallie Washburn was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Style Brazile was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Decatur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Castleberry only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Eagle Mountain came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions a 10-0 shutout. Give the Knights' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Karah Cardinal made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Cardinal was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoe Hawthorne, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Kelsey James, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Decatur's record now sits at 12-5. As for Eagle Mountain, their record is now 13-11-1.
Decatur couldn't quite get it done against Eagle Mountain when the teams last played back in March as they fell 7-4. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
