Basketball Game Preview: Southland Academy Raiders vs. Deerfield-Windsor Knights

Southland Academy and Deerfield-Windsor are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Southland Academy Raiders will head out to challenge the Deerfield-Windsor Knights at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Southland Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 44-43 victory over Sherwood Christian Academy.

Meanwhile, Deerfield-Windsor narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Valwood 51-49. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Valiants are ranked 330th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Deerfield-Windsor pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points per game. As for Southland Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Southland Academy couldn't quite finish off Deerfield-Windsor in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 and fell 38-36. Can Southland Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
