Basketball Recap: Desert Oasis Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Centennial

On Friday, Desert Oasis faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Desert Oasis Diamondbacks had to suffer through a 70-26 loss at the hands of the Centennial Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Diamondbacks of the 76-14 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Desert Oasis' loss came despite strong showings from Kayleigh Upham and Mia Baskerville. Upham posted six points and nine rebounds, while Baskerville earned seven points.

Even though they lost, Desert Oasis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

The loss snapped Desert Oasis' winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 13-10 record. As for Centennial, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

Desert Oasis is taking a road trip to face off against Desert Pines at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Desert Pines is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season. Centennial has already played their next contest, a 59-56 victory against Democracy Prep Agassi Campus on the 1st.
