Softball Game Preview: Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes vs. Princeville Princes

The Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes will face off against the Princeville Princes at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Abingdon/Avon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Abingdon/Avon barely beat Galesburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tornadoes blew past the Silver Streaks 15-8 on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tornadoes needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Avery Stegall was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Gunther, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Delavan hit Princeville with a seven-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Princes lost 12-6 to the Panthers. The Princes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mekaya Cihla was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. Annie Hofman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one double.

Abingdon/Avon moved to 10-16 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Princeville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-21.

Everything went Abingdon/Avon's way against Princeville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Abingdon/Avon made off with a 13-2 victory. Do the Tornadoes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Princes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
