Softball Recap: Bishop Mcnamara Starts Season with Win Against Southern Maryland Christian Academy

Bishop McNamara had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Southern Maryland Christian Academy a 19-0 shutout on Tuesday.

Madison Stewart and Isabella Webb made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Stewart pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Webb tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, Stewart didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Stewart scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Webb went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Stewart has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Christina Brown was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. What's more, she posted four RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Alyssa Scatliffe was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop McNamara will face off against St. Mary's Ryken at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give Bishop McNamara their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season. Southern Maryland Christian Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bishop McNamara at 4:00 p.m. on April 24th.
