Basketball Game Preview: New Covenant Academy Huskies vs. Mesrobian Bulldogs

New Covenant Academy hasn't had much luck against Mesrobian recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Both will face off at 7:00 p.m. without much rest having both just played. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Thursday, New Covenant Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Southwestern Academy and fell 58-55. The loss was the Huskies' first of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mesrobian). They claimed a resounding 119-25 victory over Waverly. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 33 points or more this season.

New Covenant Academy better keep an eye on Nicholas Khatchikian. He was instrumental in Mesrobian's win, going 51 for 66 en route to 99 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. Khatchikian's evening made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Khatchikian, who dropped a triple-double on 15 boards, 35 assists, and 13 steals.

Mesrobian was working as a unit and finished the game with 39 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Mesrobian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for New Covenant Academy, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

New Covenant Academy took a serious blow against Mesrobian in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 80-9. Can New Covenant Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
