Baseball Game Preview: Sumner Spartans vs. Emerald Ridge Jaguars

The Sumner Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Emerald Ridge Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sumner comes in on three and Emerald Ridge on eight.

Sumner proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by eight) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let Graham-Kapowsin get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Garrett Levenhagen tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Sumner's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Elijah Prunty, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Emerald Ridge came out on top against Lake Stevens on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Jaguars put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 7-1 win.

Emerald Ridge's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Sumner, their record now sits at 12-4.

Sumner couldn't quite get it done against Emerald Ridge when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-6. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
