Basketball Game Preview: Lakewood Gators vs. South Florence Bruins

Lakewood hasn't had much luck against South Florence recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lakewood Gators will venture away from home to face off against the South Florence Bruins at 6:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Lakewood ended up a good deal behind Darlington and lost 61-43.

Lakewood's defeat came about despite a quality game from Zakiya Hodge, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Lauryn Nesmith, who posted six points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Even though they lost, Lakewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Florence). They breezed by Socastee to the tune of 67-29 on Saturday. The victory was familiar territory for the Bruins who have now won three matches in a row.

South Florence's win came from a few key players Lakewood will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Harmony Bostick, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. The game was her third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allyson Watson, who earned 16 points and four steals.

Lakewood's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for South Florence, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-7.

Lakewood came up short against South Florence in their previous matchup back in January, falling 48-39. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bostick, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards.
