High school basketball: No. 1 Link Academy, No. 2 Montverde Academy battle for National Top 10 top spot

No. 5 DME Academy upsets No. 6 IMG Academy 47-44 in thrilling finish Tuesday night.

The National Top 10 continues its turbulent run as previous No. 5 DME Academy (Daytona Beach, Fla.) shocked previous No. 5 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) 47-44 on an unlikely buzzer-beating game winner.

DME Academy's moves to No. 5 gives it a legitimate shot to become the first Sunshine Independent Athletic Association program to earn a GEICO Nationals invitation.

A rematch of last year's GEICO Nationals title games takes center stage Friday at the Metro Classic as No. 1 Link Academy (Branson, Mo.) and No. 2 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) battle for not only seeding at the end-of-year tournament, but the top spot in next week's National Top 10.

Other significant matchups this week include Montverde Academy against No. 9 La Lumiere (La Porte, Ind.) on Thursday, No. 4 Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Aire, Kan.) battling IMG Academy on Friday and No. 7 AZ Compass Prep (Chandler, Ariz.) vs. Combine Academy (Lincolnton, N.C.) on Sunday.

Picked up a pair of wins at the Duel in the Desert, knocking off No. 7 Dream City Christian 87-83, led by 24 points from Tennessee signee Cameron Carr and 22 points from Baylor signee Ja'Kobe Walter before defeating Bella Vista Prep (Scottsdale, Ariz.) 68-62 paced by 14 points, five assists and four rebounds from Walter.

Secured wins over Westminster Academy (Fort Lauderdale) 85-53, Owyhee (Meridan, Idaho) 76-40 and St. Rita (Chicago) 90-70 to win the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament. The Eagles have three contests against ranked opponents this week at the Metro Classic, facing No. 9 La Lumiere on Thursday, No. 1 Link Academy on Friday and MaxPreps Top 25 No. 19 Roselle Catholic (Roselle, N.J.) on Saturday.

Had the week off after splitting a pair of games at the the Crush in the Valley. The Crew had one player named to the McDonald's All American game last week as Auburn signee Aden Holloway earned an invite to the contest.

A big weekend awaits the Buffaloes as they take on No. 5 IMG Academy on Thursday and Wasatch Academy (Mt. Pleasant, Utah) on Friday at the NIBC at IMG Academy. The perennial national powerhouse is fifth in the NIBC standings at 5-3.

Notched a signature victory over No. 7 IMG Academy 47-44 on a game-winning basket at the buzzer from UCF commit Petras Padegimas. The unlikely final play saw DME Academy inbound the ball from under their own basket with 0.9 seconds remaining before throwing the pass to the opposite 3-point line for the last second basket.

The Ascenders look to bounce back from a tough loss against No. 5 DME Academy at the NIBC at IMG Academy this weekend, facing No. 4 Sunrise Christian Academy on Thursday, Legacy Early College (Greenville, S.C.) on Friday and Wasatch Academy (Mt. Pleasant, Utah) on Saturday.

North Carolina signee Zayden High had a big week for the Dragons, scoring a team-high 18 points in an 87-49 victory over SFBA Trinity Prep (Las Vegas) and going off for 26 points and 14 rebounds in a 93-42 win over Albuquerque Prep (Albuquerque, N.M.).

Split a pair of contests at the Duel in the Desert, losing 87-83 to No. 1 Link Academy despite 25 points and six rebounds from Memphis commit David Tubek. They beat Albuquerque Prep (Albuquerque, N.M.) 91-71 led by 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists from Tubek.

Have a pair of NIBC contests this weekend at the Metro Classic, facing off against No. 2 Montverde Academy on Thursday and Bishop Walsh (Cumberland, Md.) on Friday. Senior Wisconsin signee Gus Yalden is averaging 16.3 points, leading the NIBC in conference play.

Despite struggling against quality competition this season, the Gray Bees remain in the final spot in the National Top 10 as teams below them competing for the final spot continue to suffer losses as the season progresses.
