Recap: Fort Payne Wildcats vs. Oxford Yellow Jackets
The Fort Payne Wildcats were the 46-42 winner over the Oxford Yellow Jackets when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The match between the pair wasn't particularly close, with Fort Payne falling 71-52. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Oxford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xaionna Whitfield, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 13 rebounds. Whitfield is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games she's played. Ava Thomas was another key contributor, scoring 25 points along with nine rebounds.
Fort Payne's defeat dropped their record down to 17-10. As for Oxford, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-11.
Fort Payne will be playing in front of their home fans against Westminster Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westminster Christian Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 369th, while Fort Payne is ranked 95th). As for Oxford, they will head out on the road to face off against Gadsden City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gadsden City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Friday.
