Volleyball Recap: Spring Valley Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Charleston Catholic

Spring Valley faced Charleston Catholic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Timberwolves had just enough and edged out the Irish 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Timberwolves have posted since September 16th.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Spring Valley got the one that really mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 12-25, 25-18.

Emma Edwards paced Spring Valley's offense, picking up 16 kills. Edwards got some help from Avery Ellis and her 18 assists. Ava Robertson controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Despite the loss, Charleston Catholic still got an impressive performance from Ali Wilcox, who had 20 digs and four aces. Wilcox has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last four times she's played.

Spring Valley pushed their record up to 25-9-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Charleston Catholic, their defeat ended a 21-match streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 24-7-1.

Coincidentally, Spring Valley and Charleston Catholic will both be playing Woodrow Wilson the next time they take the court. The Irish will host the Flying Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Timberwolves will play them later in the day, at 8:00 p.m.
