Carson Scott made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Conner Britton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted over his last ten matchups. Another player making a difference was Brayden Vachon, who earned one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases.
Lakeside School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wilcox Academy only posted an OBP of .385.
Meanwhile, Coosa Valley Academy earned a 12-7 win over Crenshaw Christian Academy last Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won five in a row.
Like Lakeside School, Coosa Valley Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Jay Chapman. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Chapman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Coosa Valley Academy is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 11-17 otherwise. Chapman was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Landon Payton and Sam Setzer did most of the damage at the plate: Payton went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Setzer went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Payton has become a key player for Coosa Valley Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-19 otherwise. Thomas Mullins was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Lakeside School is on a roll lately: they've won 20 of their last 21 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 49-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Coosa Valley Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 15-19.
Both Lakeside School and Coosa Valley Academy just can't seem to miss. The Chiefs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Coosa Valley Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Lakeside School's way against Coosa Valley Academy in their previous meeting back in February, as Lakeside School made off with a 10-1 win. Will the Chiefs repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
