Baseball Recap: Gateway Legacy Christian Academy Wins Going Away Against Wright City

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Sullivan, Gateway Legacy Christian Academy was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Wright City Wildcats. That looming 8-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Lions yet this season.

Dario Mendez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mendez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Juan Telles was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Gateway Legacy Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 1-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Wandel Bautista, who scored two runs and stole a base.

Gateway Legacy Christian Academy's record is now 4-7. As for Wright City, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gateway Legacy Christian Academy will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Elsberry at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wright City, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Wright City Wildcats challenge Hermann Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
