Speed kills and Alabama pledge has plenty of it.

Reigning national champion Alabama added another playmaker to its arsenal Wednesday with the addition of wide receiver Jaylen Waddle of Episcopal (Bellaire, Texas).

Waddle is regarded as the No. 39 overall prospect and No. 5 wide receiver in the Class of 2018 by 247Sports. The Houston-area star was a touchdown machine at Episcopal, getting to the end zone 30 times as a junior.

Earlier in the day, the Crimson Tide also added five-star cornerback prospect Patrick Surtain II of American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.). With a relatively small recruiting class (19 total signees/commitments), Nick Saban's latest haul won't finish No. 1 but it's another Top 10 contingent headed to Tuscaloosa.

Alabama, Florida State, Oregon, TCU and Texas A&M were regarded as the primary contenders for Waddle's signature.
