Football Recap: Hay Springs Starts Season with Win on the Road

Hay Springs had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victors by a 46-21 margin over the Paxton Tigers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hawks also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Hay Springs got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tripp Buettner out in front who rushed for 61 yards and two scores, and also threw for 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six passes. Buettner didn't just play on offense: he also made seven total tackles and defended three passes. Jaydub Turman was another key player, rushing for 30 yards and one TD.

Hay Springs' run defense was locked in: Paxton could only muster 0.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Evan Smith for the heroic effort on defense: he. Hay Springs didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.7.

When it comes to explaining why Paxton lost, don't look at Maddex Mcconnell. Despite the final result, he picked up 166 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Mcconnell was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 65 yards.

Hay Springs will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Potter-Dix on the 12th. As for Paxton, they will hit the road for the first time this season to take on South Platte at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
