Providence School came into Saturday's match looking for another win against Creekside, but Derek Rivers wouldn't allow it. The Creekside Knights sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-48 win over the Providence School Stallions on Saturday thanks in part to Rivers, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave him a new career-high.
Another player making a difference was Nolan Nelson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last four times he's played.
Despite the loss, Providence School saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ryan Gornto posted 12 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of William Stewart, who earned nine points.
Creekside now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Providence School, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Creekside will challenge Ponte Vedra at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
