Basketball Recap: Southwest Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Southwest's game on Saturday was all tied up 30-30 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They strolled past the Central Chargers with points to spare, taking the game 66-52. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Chargers are ranked 360th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southwest got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brandon Ashley out in front who went 5 for 9 on his way to 17 points and three steals. The matchup was Ashley's third in a row with at least ten points. Chase Dupree was another key player, putting up 21 points and seven boards.

The victory (which was Southwest's fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points per game. As for Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-13.

Southwest will head out on the road to challenge Bleckley County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bleckley County will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Southwest surely won't give up without a fight. As for Central, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Academy for Classical Education at 7:30 p.m. Central is facing Academy for Classical Education at the right time seeing as Academy for Classical Education is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
