Basketball Game Preview: Gregory-Portland Wildcats vs. Miller Buccaneers

The Gregory-Portland Wildcats and the Miller Buccaneers will round out the year against one another at at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Gregory-Portland's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 15 matchups.

Last Friday, the stars were shining brightly for Gregory-Portland in a 74-56 victory over Alice. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Coyotes are ranked 921st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Miller). They breezed by Corpus Christi Moody to the tune of 65-34 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Buccaneers have posted since December 7, 2023.

Miller's win came from a few key players Gregory-Portland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Lamarcus Cullum, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trevor Long, who earned five points along with seven boards and four steals.

Miller smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Gregory-Portland is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. As for Miller, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.

Gregory-Portland skirted past Miller 63-60 in their previous meeting back in January. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Miller's Damare Lister, who had 31 points and three steals.
