1. Paul VI (Fairfax)
Coach: Scott Allen
2012-13 Finish: 29-4 and won the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I state championship by defeating Liberty Christian

The Panthers begin the season ranked No. 5 in the country by MaxPreps, returning four starters: Louisville-bound Ariana Freeman (5-11, Sr., G), Jonquanae Cole (6-4, Jr., C), Jasmine Whitney (5-8, So., G) and Lindsey Oblitey (5-8, Sr., G). The Panthers are the seven-time defending state champions, yet have never won the rugged Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. Depth comes from Kendall Hunter (5-11, Jr., F), Raven James (5-5, So., G) and Kayla Meador (5-7, Jr., G).

2. Cosby (Midlothian)
Coach: Rachel Mead
2012-13 Finish: 26-2 and lost in the regional semifinals

The Titans return three starters: Dorothy Adomaco (6-1, Sr., F), Skye Jefferson (6-1, Sr., C) and Jocelyn Jones (5-10, So., G). Other starters will emerge from Tyra Whitehead (6-1, So., F), Ali Trani (5-7, Jr., G) and Madison Howdyshell (5-10, Jr., F).

3. Princess Anne (Virginia Beach)
Coach: Darnell Dozier
2012-13 Finish: 30-2 (10-0 Beach District), lost in Group AAA state finals to Lake Taylor 56-53

The Cavaliers return starters Janayla White (6-2, Sr., C), a Radford commit, Justyce Swango (5-5, Sr., G), a College of Charleston signee and Gadiva Hubbard (5-8, Soph., G), who averaged 19.7 points per game and is being recruited by Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth among others. Mercedes Tapia (5-8, Jr., G) and Danyael Goodhope (5-6, So., G) add depth. The Cavs will press and run, creating offense off their defense.

4. Stonewall Jackson (Manassas)
Coach: Diana Martinez
2012-13 Finish: 24-4 and reached the Class 3A state semifinals

Leading the Raiders will be returning starters Nicole Floyd (6-2, Sr., F), a Wake Forest commit, Sydney Jordan (6-0, Jr., G) and Rachel Burns (5-7, Jr., G). Hayley Nordike (5-6, Jr., G) and Kayla Hix (5-6, Sr., G) could round out the starting lineup.

5. Monacan (Richmond)
Coach: Larry Starr
2012-13 Finish: 15-8 and lost in first round of district playoffs

The Chiefs could be the surprise team in the state. Returning starters are Richmond-bound Micaela Parson (5-8, Sr., G), Sydnei Archie (5-11, So., F), and Kristen Bowse (5-3, Sr., G). Where the Chiefs become a real factor comes in impact freshmen Megan Walker (6-0, Fr., G), Alex Parson (5-5, Fr., G), Jaiden Morris (5-8, Fr. F) and Jasmine Norman (5-4, Fr., G). The Chiefs have advanced to four state quarterfinals over the past 11 years and coach Starr feels like this team will continue to improve throughout the season as the freshmen mature.
