Volleyball Recap: Southside Comes Up Short

Southside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McCollum Cowboys. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Southside was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made McCollum work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 28-26, 25-22, 15-25, 25-13.

Loss or not, Southside got some senior leadership from Justinne Padilla and Gabriella Galindo. Padilla had 21 digs and two aces, while Galindo had 27 assists and six digs. Those 21 digs set a new season-high mark for Padilla. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Tagle, who had 15 digs and one assist.

Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for McCollum, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.

Looking ahead, Southside will be taking part in a tournament against Gregory-Portland at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. As for McCollum, they will welcome Carroll at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
