Baseball Recap: Somerset Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Somerset extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 11-14 in the process. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Southwestern Warriors a 9-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-2 two weeks ago.

Isaiah Lewis was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kole Grundy, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to hits, as he's now got three or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Raygan New, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Southwestern, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-13. The game marked the first time this year in which they were not able to get on the board.

On Southwestern's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Couch, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Couch is becoming a predictor of the Warriors' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 8-12 when he doesn't).

Coming up, Somerset will challenge Corbin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southwestern, they will face off against Boyle County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
