Basketball Recap: Monrovia Falls Despite Big Games from Hayden Mccloud and Clay Tharp

After flying high against Irvington Preparatory Academy last Saturday, Monrovia came back down to earth. The Monrovia Bulldogs took a hard 64-49 fall against the Greencastle Tiger Cubs on Thursday. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tiger Cubs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Monrovia's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Clay Tharp, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 17 points in addition to six assists and four steals, and Hayden Mccloud, who went 8-for-18 en route to 21 points and seven rebounds. Those four steals gave Tharp a new career-high.

Sam Gooch was his usual excellent self, going 9-for-12 on his way to 23 points for Greencastle. Gooch's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Trevin Long, who posted nine points along with five assists and three steals.

Monrovia's record is now 6-10. As for Greencastle, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-5.

Monrovia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-52 loss against Tri-West Hendricks on the 11th. As for Greencastle, they have also already played their next contest, a 67-26 victory against Brown County on the 8th.
