Softball Recap: Van Vleck Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

Van Vleck had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They never let the Trinity Tigers get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Friday. Considering the Leopards have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Lakyn Matchett, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Trinity off the board. Matchett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aamry Gutierrez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Nicole Ryman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.

Van Vleck was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .429 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Van Vleck is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Trinity, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Van Vleck will be playing in front of their home fans against Orangefield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats will roll in looking for their 20th straight win, something the Leopards surely won't give up without a fight. Trinity does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
