Preview: Affton Cougars vs. McCluer North Stars
The Affton Cougars will stay at home for another game and welcome the McCluer North Stars at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. Hopefully Affton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Monday.
Last Monday, it was close, but Affton sidestepped Riverview Gardens for a 45-42 victory.
Affton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amelia Wilson led the charge by scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Wilson hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Grana, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 52-17, which was the final score in McCluer North's tilt against Hazelwood West on Thursday. While losing is never fun, McCluer North can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 447th, while Hazelwood West is ranked 218th).
Affton's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9. As for McCluer North, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.
Affton beat McCluer North 46-39 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Will Affton repeat their success, or does McCluer North have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
